Microsoft sneaks a peak at the Xbox 360. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today’s technology. It won’t be available for months….but Microsoft is trying to generate some early excitement for its next generation game console. The company bought time on MTV to give fans an advance look. Group product manager Carlos DeLeon…
“It is an unusual move, it’s never been done before in the video game industry. Normally what happens is that new consoles are introduced at trade shows and we thought it was important for this next generation to go directly to Xbox fans.”
While Microsoft hasn’t revealed all the details about the Xbox 360…it is smaller and more sleek…
”Some of the key differentiators between the last generation and this current generation are things like wireless controllers, things like it’s always connected. Whether you’re on Xbox live or not, you’ll be able to tap in and be connected with your friends and family. Things like customization are a really, really important aspect to Xbox 360.”
For now Microsoft is remaining mum about the price and whether it will play existing Xbox games. At the Official Xbox Magazine, which is not affiliated with Microsoft, editor in chief Rob Smith says Microsoft hopes to get an edge this time over Sony….by being first to market…
“I think it’s really important that they’re actually out first. They have the opportunity to build on a year’s worth of opportunity with new games and the latest hardware on the market. It’s very important.”
Last time out…Sony had the head start and the Playstation 2 has outsold the Xbox by about four to one. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I’m Fred Fishkin.
