More new software for organizing those digital photos. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today’s technology. Shutterfly….one of the originators of online photo storage and printing….is out with a new application for helping users organize their images. CEO Jeffrey Housenbold says it is called Shutterfly Studio…
”Which is a desktop software application that allows you to upload, edit and enhance, view, share, print and also, importantly, what we heard from our customers, is that as their collection of memories is growing, the number of photos on their desktop, it’s becoming harder and harder to find and organize those photos. So now that they have thousands, they want better ways to organize those. And Shutterfly Studio has some really neat advanced features that are simple and easy to use.”
The editing tools are basic….and don’t compete with those offered by Adobe, Microsoft or even Google’s free Picasa application. But the organization is well done….and the link to upload photos to Shutterfly for sharing or printing is seamless. Shutterfly has managed to stay independent and profitable according to Housenbold, while rivals have been acquired. Ofoto by Kodak and Snapfish by Hewlett Packard. The secret, he says…
“We’ve never deleted a photo, no one else in the industry can say that. We don’t force customers to register or sign up to view their friends’ and families’ photos.”
